Texas law gives you certain rights regarding your homeowners, dwelling, and renters insurance.
The Office of Public Insurance Counsel has prepared a Consumer Bill of Rights for Homeowners, Dwelling, and Renters Insurancethat provides a summary of various rights afforded to you by rule or by state statute concerning homeowners, dwelling, and renters insurance. A list of citations to the statutes and rules upon which the Bill of Rights is based is availably by clicking here.
Please note that the Bill of Rights does not include all of your rights, nor does it list all exceptions to your rights. Also, this Bill of Rights does not address your duties or responsibilities as a policyholder. These are found in your homeowners, dwelling, or renter’s policy. Failure to meet the duties or responsibilities spelled out in your policy could affect your rights as a policyholder.
