Know Your Rights

Texas law gives you certain rights as an insurance consumer. The Consumer Bill of Rights for Homeowners, Dwelling, and Renters Insurance outlines many of those important rights. Insurance companies must give you this Bill of Rights with your policy. It’s important to read and understand your policy.

The Bill of Rights is NOT a complete list of all your rights, part of your policy, or a list of everything that you are responsible for.

Note: The 2024 versions of the Bills of Rights (below) reflect the law as of 2024. However, insurers may distribute the 2021 version of the Bill of Rights through October 31, 2024.
